Sports Medicine

Sports MedicineSports Medicine is a branch of Physical Therapy that utilizes a comprehensive approach to evaluate and treat sport and exercise-related injuries, disorders, dysfunctions, and disease processes while also providing the individual with education for prevention of future injury.

The professional staff of HealthWorks offers the expertise and specialized equipment necessary to treat a variety of sports-related injuries. Our patients have included world-class kayakers, as well as professional basketball, baseball and soccer players. We treat collegiate-level athletes along with weekend warriors and Little League hopefuls.

The Standards of Care utilized by our clinic are evidence-based; backed up by current research in the field and updated as needed. They address all major injury sites and address both surgical and non-surgical conditions including Rotator Cuff Pathology, Knee Injuries, Ankle Injuries, etc.

Community Sports Medicine Program
At HealthWorks, we believe in supporting and encouraging safe athletics in our schools and in our Sports Medicinecommunity. Through our Community Sports Medicine Program, we provide Injury Management Coverage for community athletic sporting events. We provide services primarily to Franklin High School, but are available to assist with other events, as time allows. All services under the Community Sports Medicine Program are provided free of charge, as a community service.

Our program at Franklin High School has been at the core of our Community Sports Medicine Program since its inception in 2000. Currently, our services include: 1) sideline coverage for all football games (including away and playoff games) to provide on-field wound care, taping/bracing, examination of all injuries and determination of readiness for return to play; 2) mid-week visits to the school to check on athletes; 3) Saturday morning clinic after Friday night games; and 4) same day, in-clinic exams and limited follow-up appointments (1-3 visits) on a courtesy basis, for athletes in need of care for simple injuries, bumps/bruises/strains/sprains, etc. It should be noted that these in-clinic services are available, with appropriate coach referral, for athletes across all sports at FHS. More complicated treatment of injuries requiring long term care is available via insurance or other coverage, upon parental request.
